What Makes You Fall in Love with Your City - May 28, 2010
NORFOLK, VA: Join us in a discussion of how art is part of this mysterious process. The Virginia Commission for the Arts, Norfolk Public Art Commission, Chrysler Museum and the Virginia Alliance of Local Arts Agencies are excited to present the fourth annual spring mini-conference, Artful Districts, inspired by community love of public art and meaningful spaces. This lively day of networking and presentations (and a delicious lunch) will be held at the Chrysler Museum, located at 245 West Olney Road in Norfolk on Thursday, May 27, 2010, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm with a guided tour of Norfolk public art on Friday, May 28th, from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.
Speakers include:
Raymond L. Gindroz, co-founder, principal emeritus of Urban Design Associates;
- And one of the world’s top urban planners who has worked on the Norfolkian urban canvas for over 20 years
Kent Bloomer, designer, sculptor, and fabricator of Ornament in Architecture
- And top Yale architecture professor and author and advocate for ornamentation in architecture and public artist (or is that public ornamentor)
Naomi Natale, founder of One Million Bones and The Cradle Project, TED Fellow
- Some day you will say I heard her speak before, some day you might say you were part of ending genocide or feeding starving children. Don’t believe me? Look her up.
Arts Commissioners from Norfolk, Alexandria, Arlington and Roanoke, Virginia
- Yup, members of those amazing groups of volunteers who agree to work for free (with government bureaucracy!) Come with questions about why they do it.
