EUREKA CALIFORNIA ART EXHIBITION - December 2-23, 2008
A Regional Holiday Invitational Exhibition

Humboldt State University First Street Gallery is pleased to present " A Regional Holiday Invitational Exhibition ", featuring the artwork of five artists from California's North Coast, who will display photographs, works on paper, ceramics, sculpture, and paintings.
Participants include: Kellie Jo Brown, Erica Botkin, David Jordan, Claudia Lima, Sierra Pahl, and Charissa Schulze.
Produced by Humboldt State students enrolled in the Museum and Gallery Practices Program, the exhibition will run from December 2nd through December 23rd. Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, HSU First Street Gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday from 12-5pm and is located at 422 First Street, Old Town, Eureka, CA. Public Art 101 for Artists
Registration Deadline: Wednesday, December 3, 2008, 12:00 p.m. EST
Participants will learn the basic "nuts and bolts" of the field of public art. The 90-minute webinar will cover some of the unique skills required for art-making in the public realm including an overview of public art and the public realm, project examples, programs, funding, implementation, and resources for further study. Two case studies will be presented which explore the experiences of two artists who have transitioned from the studio/gallery to the public realm. The webinar is suited for administrators interested in better understanding the artists' experience as well as artists exploring public art as a profession.

The Qualities of Quality

Understanding the challenge of creating and sustaining high quality formal arts learning experiences for K–12 youth, inside and outside of school, is the focus of a recent study, The Qualities of Quality: Excellence in Arts Education and How to Achieve It, commissioned by The Wallace Foundation and conducted by Project Zero at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. In this webinar, we will share the findings of this study and introduce some of the tools developed by the research team for use by practitioners committed to examining and improving the quality of the arts learning experiences they provide for young people.
